The 2020 Belmont Stakes will be unlike any other.

The New York Racing Association announced Tuesday that the 152nd Belmont will happen on June 20. The race will be held without fans because of the coronavirus. Usually the final leg in the Triple Crown, the Belmont will serve as the first race for the first time ever.

The race will be 1 1/8 miles instead of 1 1/2. It was originally scheduled for June 6.

“The Belmont Stakes is a New York institution that will provide world-class entertainment for sports fans during these challenging times,” NYRA president & CEO Dave O’Rourke said in a statement. “While this will certainly be a unique running of this historic race, we are grateful to be able to hold the Belmont Stakes in 2020.

The Kentucky Derby, originally scheduled for May 2, was rescheduled for Sept. 5, while the Preakness was moved from May 16 to Oct. 3.

This is stupid.....why run the Belmont stakes 2.5 months before the Kentucky Derby?

I'm guessing cuz of the Breeders Cup in Nov.

If a horse wins the Triple Crown this year it is clearly with an asterisk. Races spread apart longer than normal and not in order in addition to shorter length.

They should have just moved it to Saratoga in August

Why not? Everything else is fucked up, might as well add to the mix

Interesting. I think they might have liked Oct 3rd but the Preakness got that. Saratoga has the Travers. Not many prep races leading into the Belmont. The Santa Anita Derby looks like the big prep.

Not sure why we need any sports right now , if no fans are participating.. Just suspend these events until we're all able to get involved

I'm not sure how many small tracks won't open.
No fans wont deter the overall handle at all. Horse guys will bet from anywhere including home.

The betting handles across the board are up big time, even the smaller tracks. That is good for racing. :toast:

As of right now Baffert is pointing both Arkansas Derby Div. winners to the Belmont, Nadal and Charlatan.

Barclay Tagg has said Florida Derby winner Tiz The Law will next run in the Belmont.

Should be a hell of a race.^!:
